Tai chi for the over 50s

In our June 2014 Small Grants round we awarded £500 to the Tai Chi group based at Walter May House in Whitehawk to provide social activities for members throughout the year. These activities included Christmas lunch, croquet and cream tea, Easter lunch and various 'taster' sessions.
Project organiser Frances Low told us “The aim of the group is to use Tai Chi exercises to improve balance, coordination, suppleness and cognitive activity. We also want our members to feel included and so we run a social side to the group. This would not be possible without funding as we provide a Christmas lunch, croquet and cream tea outing and an Easter and summer party. Our members are often pensioners on a low income and they are lonely and feel excluded.”
