Sunflower Support Group take off on an adventure

Posted on

This year, the Sunflower Support Group from Amaze applied to us again to fund their summer outing for children and young people with additional needs and their parents/ carers. This year the group decided to go to Knockhatch Adventure Park, near Eastbourne. A total of 57 people travelled by Big Lemon coach from Moulsecoomb to the adventure park, with the East Brighton Trust grant covering the coach hire and part of the entry to the park. The outing was a great success, with the group able to facilitate a day out for families who might otherwise struggle to organise an outing for the whole family or not be able to afford it. Paolo Boldrini (Amaze Parent Carer Participation and Outreach Worker) told us that the day out was especially beneficial to siblings of children with additional needs who, much of the time, can feel isolated by their experience as young carers. Parents were also able to enjoy the day and meet each other outside the ‘normal’ monthly group setting.

One of the parents also wanted to give us feedback on the trip and said “The day was just perfect. Everyone enjoyed themselves and even the weather was on our side! The park is very children-friendly with lots of green spaces and areas to relax. It was great fun for my children and, I have to say, for us parents too.”

You can read more about the trip in the Amaze October newsletter where you can also find out about their monthly coffee mornings across the city.
