Bringing a Fresh Identity to St George’s Hall – with Help from BACA
At East Brighton Trust, we believe in the power of collaboration and bringing together organisations that might not normally connect, sparking fresh ideas and creating meaningful partnerships and projects.
Earlier this year, we kicked off a new partnership with BACA. Shortly after that, we discovered that St George’s Hall was keen to refresh its identity for social media and communications.
The concept soon evolved into an exciting collaborative opportunity: What if BACA media students could gain real-world experience by working on a live branding brief that directly benefits St George’s Hall?
With Bear Creative on board to offer professional guidance, a group of talented BACA media students joined the project.
The first phase of the project began at BACA with an introductory session, where students explored what makes a strong, recognisable brand and how branding can mirror the process of building a community.
We all then visited St George’s Hall, where students met staff members Jane and Nicky, who shared the rich history of the hall and its current role in the community. Home to initiatives like the Moulsecoomb Community Market and Brighton Repair Café, the hall has a longstanding presence in the area; originally opened in 1930 as a church hall, sold to the council in 1968, and rebuilt as a community centre in 1989.
During their visit, students gathered inspiration and reference materials to develop their creative ideas. They then returned to BACA to begin designing concepts, receiving feedback along the way from East Brighton Trust and Bear Creative.
Last week, students Luke, Rhys and Andrii, along with media teacher Alex West, came to Moulsecoomb Place to present their final designs to Jane and Nicky. It was an exciting and much-anticipated presentation, and the results did not disappoint.
The students were able to gather ideas and reference materials to help develop their ideas, and then worked on their concepts and designs, which were reviewed by East Brighton Trust and Bear Creative along the way.
Last week, students Luke, Rhys and Andrii and media teacher Alex West came to Moulsecoomb Place to present their work to Jane and Nicky from St George’s Hall for a long-awaited and exciting presentation.
The posters and logos were incredibly well received, showcasing the students’ creativity, commitment, and thoughtful design work.
Student Luke shared his experience: “It’s been really fun using my creativity alongside what I’ve learned in media and business studies.”
Jane from St George’s Hall reflected on the impact of the project:
“We needed something to help put us on the map – we rely on bookings to keep going, and without them, we can’t run.”
Nicky added: “St George’s Hall has never had proper branding, and we simply couldn’t have afforded this kind of work. It’s an amazing opportunity to have it done in this way.”
The students presented a range of creative ideas and designs, leaving St George’s Hall with some exciting choices to consider before the final branding is rolled out across their social media and communication channels in the near future!
