Creative Fusion Event

Manor Road Gym – Saturday 7th September

Last Saturday saw a fantastic, community-powered afternoon of art, dance, spoken word and music at Manor Road Gym, raising much needed funds for charity Indian Futures.

Organiser Alanna updated East Brighton Trust this week, and spoke about the success of the event.
‘It was an afternoon where you could participate, watch, and be immersed in an atmosphere that stimulated the senses. There was also the opportunity to buy items that the tailors had made and have a warming drink and refreshments.
We raised £460 and I’m still collecting donations so hopefully we might reach £500!’
‘Kate from Bollywood and her dancers were full of energy and enthusiasm said it was great that so many people joined in to learn a few moves. People enjoyed the painting to songs sung by Paul and Mandy with improvised music by Roger and Anthony. The resultant creation lace was very colourful and beautiful. Spoken word interludes included writing from the Dene where I run a small writing group, and were interspersed by songs played and sung by Roger’

The event was described by an attendee (Jasmine) as:

“A beautifully warm gathering. A perfect way to support Indian Futures; so much gratitude to everyone who spent time expressing themselves.”

Alanna has been involved in Indian Futures since 2021, and is now a trustee of the charity. Their valuable work funds much-needed accessibility to quality education in Tamil Nadu, SouthWestern India. The charity empowers young girls who wouldn’t have the opportunity to go to University, paying their University fees, as well as paying for children’s IT Centres.

Alanna volunteers for a number of projects in East Brighton, and spoke about the similarities between Whitehawk and Tamil Nadu.

‘Whitehawk has issues with poverty which means there is inequality around accessing education and health care, and that ties in with the rural poverty in Tamil Nadu’.
