Creativity and Opportunity at Moulsecoomb Place: Vincent Dance Theatre Launches Youth Programme
Moulsecoomb Place continues to grow as a home for creativity, collaboration and opportunity for the local east and north Brighton community.
One of the organisations now based at the site is Vincent Dance Theatre (VDT), whose participation work will be rooted here as part of the creative community being developed by East Brighton Trust (EBT) in partnership with AudioActive.
Together with organisations including Culture Shift and Brighton People’s Theatre, Vincent Dance Theatre will help develop new opportunities for local people to explore creativity, build confidence, learn new skills and connect with others.
EBT is aiming to make creativity and opportunity accessible to everyone in the local area.
A Creative Home For Local People at Moulsecoomb Place
Easily accessible by public transport on Lewes Road, Moulsecoomb Place brings together the historic Manor House, the Tithe Barn and surrounding gardens under the stewardship of EBT.
The site is being developed as a place where creative practice, social enterprise and community life can exist side by side. Inside the Manor House, creative organisations are working together to develop participation opportunities that open doors for local residents of all ages.
At the centre of the site is The Skep, a welcoming space designed for meeting, making, learning and collaborating. The Skep will host Vincent Dance Theatre’s workshops, screenings and live events, providing a flexible environment for shared creative activity.
Just across the grass sits Moulsecoomb Hall, an accessible community venue with a fantastic sprung wooden dance floor reputedly re-homed from a former ballroom in central Brighton. This will be the home for Vincent Dance Theatre’s movement and dance sessions.
Free Dance and Performance Programme for Young People
From April 2026, Vincent Dance Theatre will launch a free, inclusive Dance and Performance Programme for young people aged 14-24.
The programme offers regular opportunities to explore movement, creativity and performance in a supportive environment. Sessions include:
- Dance Improvisation Session
Mondays, 4.30pm – 6.00pm - Dance and Performance Training
Wednesdays, 5.00pm – 6.30pm - Performance Intensives
Selected Sundays throughout the year (starting 17 May / 5 July)
All genders are welcome, and sessions are designed to be open and inclusive for young people at different stages of experience. Food will be available before every session so that young people can come straight from school or college.
Sessions begin on 13 April 2026 at Moulsecoomb Hall, Lewes Road, Brighton BN2 4GA.
Making Creativity Accessible
For many young people living in East Brighton, access to dance and performance opportunities in the city can feel both geographically and financially out of reach.
From September 2026, Vincent Dance Theatre will build on the programme by developing a Young People’s Performance Collective, creating an alternative pathway into dance and performance for those who might not otherwise have the chance to take part.
The programme is also designed with the realities of local life in mind. VDT is making food available across the programme. Young people studying at home, or those who find mainstream education difficult to attend, are particularly welcome.
Get Involved
Vincent Dance Theatre’s programme is open to young people aged 14-24, and everyone is welcome.
Sessions start 13 April 2026 at Moulsecoomb Hall.
“I loved the experience as we might not usually be able to do stuff like this. It was brilliant and I felt like everyone was confident in joining in.”

Creating Pathways for the Future
The work taking place at Moulsecoomb Place reflects EBT’s wider vision for the area.
As Gary Pleece, CEO, explains:
“Our vision is one of an inclusive local economy where everyone has the chance to shape their own future, no matter their background. Moulsecoomb Place is a huge step towards that, creating real pathways into skills, creativity, enterprise and community connection. We want to see system change for those that don’t get the same access as the rest of the city.
I’m fed up with working class communities not getting the same access to the arts, cultural experiences, jobs in the creative industries, business support, education and pretty much anything else you care to mention that others take for granted. Our mission is to radically change that by working alongside local people as we deliver on this mission.”
