Moulsecoomb Place welcomes Artspace!

Earlier this year, East Brighton Trust visited Artspace – a vibrant, dedicated, community-based studio space for people with experience of mental health issues.

Nestled in a hidden corner of the Bristol Estate, this brilliant arts and mental health charity is dedicated to expanding opportunities for communities to engage with artistic activities. It’s a supportive space where people can explore how creativity can enhance their mental wellbeing and support personal recovery.

It was inspiring to meet some of the Artspace members and learn about the opportunities offered to members to publicly exhibit their artwork, with exhibitions that foster positive and inclusive dialogues, helping to reduce prejudice and misunderstanding surrounding mental health issues.

Members can also participate in ‘Walk and Draw’ outings, immersing themselves in nature to draw inspiration, fostering mindfulness and creativity in different locations. With our recent relocation to Moulsecoomb Place – the historic 18th-century Manor House and the Tithe Barn, surrounded by vibrant veteran trees – East Brighton Trust was thrilled when Artspace members accepted our invitation to join us for an art excursion.

The picturesque setting provided the perfect backdrop for a day of creativity and connection as five members from Artspace explored the grounds of Moulsecoomb Place, capturing the essence of the surroundings through photography, sketching, and oil pastels. Inspired by the architectural beauty and natural elements, one artist envisioned creating a stained glass representation of the historic building, blending artistic expression with the rich heritage of the site.

Project volunteer and trustee Jane told us: “It was wonderful to have the opportunity to make art at Moulsecoomb Place. We were made to feel very welcome and it was much appreciated.”

We’re excited to have our friends at Artspace back at Moulsecoomb Place for another creative outing soon, and we can’t wait to see what they create next.
