Supporting Job Seekers in North Brighton: A Community Effort
Searching for work can be a challenging journey, and one that demands resilience, confidence, and the right support.
Last week, we were proud to stand alongside North Brighton resident John White as he hosted his annual job fair at Moulsecoomb Place, supported by his dedicated team of volunteers from the On Your Way job club.
John founded On Your Way with help from the Resource Centre and now runs weekly drop-in sessions at Moulsecoomb Library, Bevendean Foodbank, and The Bevy. With years of experience and a deep understanding of the barriers people face in finding and sustaining employment, John has been a vital support for local job seekers for over a decade.
Through his work, he has helped countless individuals build confidence, shift their mindset, and find pathways into work, volunteering, and training.
Speaking to us before the event, John told us:
“The event’s going to bring together local employers, charities, and organisations offering volunteering, training, and employment support. It’s designed for anyone seeking work, including those facing additional challenges, and is a relaxed, welcoming space to chat with potential employers, and connect with others on a similar path.”
The job fair was a fantastic opportunity for residents to meet with exhibitors offering roles, training programs, and volunteer opportunities. We were joined by organisations such as TDC, Future Creators, Possability People the Royal Navy, and many more.
Relish food van was also on-site, which was powered by young people from the Down Syndrome Development Trust who helped serve coffee, bagels, and snacks. It created a wonderful atmosphere, with people unwinding on the lawn and soaking up the sun.
We’re proud to support initiatives like this that bring people together and make a meaningful difference in our community, and are looking forward to hosting more events over the next few months.
