Community Development Officer

Part-time 24 hours per week

Do you want to help run a dynamic and influential community organisation in East Brighton?

East Brighton Trust supports and empowers local community organisations as a grants provider. The Trust also develops, co-ordinates and funds projects, partnerships and collaborations that meet its impact pillars of education, health and community cohesion as well as investing in community assets and partnerships that will drive social change and innovation.

As the Community Development Officer, you will foster community cohesion and collaborations with dynamic and strategic community groups to enable them to be greater than the sum of their parts.

Main responsibilities

  • To take part in a range of consultation and evaluation activities, including door-knocking, street surveys, group meetings, informal interviewing, public meetings, negotiations with service providers, marketing and publicity.
  • To work with residents of the East Brighton area to identify areas of social need and to respond to initiatives and ideas brought forward by community members.
  • To help deliver EBTs own projects and measure and evaluate their impact for reporting, including the East Echo newspaper and other initiatives with key, strategic partners.
  • Along with the Operations Manager, visit, interview, interact with, photograph, and amplify EBT grant winners and other community operations through blog and social media content (working with Marketing & PR agency).
  • To work with, and support, the development of local forums as a means of enabling decision-making at a local level.
  • To work closely with the CEO and Operations Manager collaborating on joint work and planning for delivery of successful projects.
  • Network and attend events that will enhance the EBT profile and lead to possible income generation opportunities.
  • To develop strategic, productive relationships with statutory authorities in the area and citywide.
  • To develop relationships with universities, colleges and schools as appropriate for research and other project purposes.
  • To prepare and write funding applications as appropriate and to support community organisations and volunteers in making their own applications if required.
  • To work with the Marketing & PR agency and use all forms of communication online and otherwise to raise the profile of EBT and community groups, includes managing a GDPR compliant contacts database.
  • To provide regular written monitoring reports for the organisation, funding agencies and others, as may be required.
  • To adhere to the EBTs Equal Opportunities Policy and Anti- Discrimination Statement. All Project staff are required to be active against prejudice from colleagues, volunteers, adults and young people within the community. A positive attitude towards equal opportunities and anti-discrimination practice should permeate all aspects of the Project’s work.
  • Help to deliver and administrate the grants cycle and programme with Sussex Community Foundation (SCF) for those grants managed by them.
  • Review grant funding reports at project end and ensure terms of the grant have been met.
  • Build relationships with community organisations and grant recipients to ensure sustainability and compliance.
  • Assess and evaluate projects and impact through reporting for the website and end of year organisation impact document.
  • To undertake all other reasonable tasks and responsibilities as requested by the CEO.

You must have some experience in all these areas, and especially experience in working with community organisations.

Salary £25,000
