Truth to Power: Celebrating Young Local Voices at Moulsecoomb Place
On Thursday 2 July 2026, AudioActive brought Truth to Power to Moulsecoomb Place a live showcase of music, spoken word and conversation created by young people, for the local community. Designed to celebrate emerging talent and provide a platform for young creatives to share their work and open up discussion directly with local decision-makers, the event welcomed residents, families and supporters for an evening of performances, connection and creativity.
Hosted at The Skep Moulsecoomb Place’s community venue, Truth to Power reflected the growing partnership between AudioActive and East Brighton Trust. Together, the two organisations are working to make creative opportunities more accessible for Moulsecoomb residents, transforming Moulsecoomb Place into a welcoming space where local people can create, connect and thrive. The event ran from 5:30 till 7:00pm with a free BBQ and refreshments.
The showcase featured performances from Dizlyric, Luan, Kumba, Archie Kai, Dan Anderson, Kidda, Jnthxn, Venus Elektra and WDZY, each bringing their own unique voice and style to the stage. From original music to spoken word, the evening demonstrated not only the creativity of the performers, but also the confidence, passion and authenticity that AudioActive helps young people to develop through its programmes.
Truth to Power is much more than a performance event. It provides a platform for young people to share their experiences, express themselves creatively and connect with their community. Every artist who stepped onto the stage represented the importance of providing accessible opportunities, showing that anything is possible, where young people feel supported to tell their stories and explore their potential.

The event also highlighted the growing partnership between East Brighton Trust and AudioActive at Moulsecoomb Place. Together, the two organisations are creating opportunities that place creativity at the heart of community life. By combining East Brighton Trust’s commitment to supporting local residents with AudioActive’s expertise in youth music and creative development, the partnership is helping to make arts and culture more accessible for people living in Moulsecoomb and the surrounding neighbourhoods.
At the centre of this vision is The Skep, Moulsecoomb Place’s welcoming community venue. Designed as a flexible space for performances, workshops, learning and community gatherings, The Skep is quickly becoming a home for creativity, collaboration and connection. Events like Truth to Power demonstrate exactly what the space was created for: bringing people together, celebrating local talent and making high-quality cultural experiences available right on the community’s doorstep.
The free BBQ which was hosted by local volunteers, Bates Kitchen, added another important ingredient to the evening. Sharing food has always been a way of bringing communities together, and throughout the event people gathered to chat, meet new faces and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere between performances. It reinforced that Truth to Power wasn’t simply a showcase, it was a community event where everyone was welcome.
As Moulsecoomb Place continues to grow, evenings like Truth to Power show what’s possible when organisations work together with a shared purpose. East Brighton Trust and AudioActive believe that creativity should never be limited by postcode or circumstance. Instead, it should be something every young person can access, whether they’re stepping onto a stage for the first time, writing their first song, performing spoken word, or simply discovering that there is a place where they belong.
Moulsecoomb Place was created to be exactly that kind of place: somewhere local people can learn, create, collaborate and build confidence alongside one another. Through a shared commitment to community, inclusion and opportunity, East Brighton Trust and AudioActive are helping to nurture the next generation of artists, musicians and changemakers while strengthening the creative identity of East Brighton itself.
Truth to Power was a celebration of talent, community and possibility, and judging by the energy in the room, it’s only the beginning. As more events, workshops and performances come to Moulsecoomb Place, residents can look forward to an exciting future where creativity continues to flourish at the heart of the community.
